On Thursday, Jan. 15, the Escondido Police Department renewed an administrative contract to lease the police department’s firing range to the Department of Homeland Security for Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent training. The contract is in effect until Jan. 14, 2027, and charges DHS $22,500 for the one-year lease, with the option of extending it until 2029 for $67,000. It allows DHS to privately use the firing range 20 days per year to train 200 ICE agents in groups of 20.
