Chicago police confirmed that two men died in the shooting, which occurred near a White Castle restaurant in the 2300 block of West Roosevelt at approximately 1:20 p.m. UIC, in a campus alert posted on social media at around 2:30 p.m., confirmed additional police activity in the 1100 block of South Wood Street. University officials initially asked those off campus to stay away and urged anyone on campus to follow instructions from officials and local authorities. The Chicago Fire Department confirmed to NBC Chicago a person was found dead inside the Wood Street Parking Structure on campus.
