Tuskegee University men’s basketball head coach Benjy Taylor was handcuffed by law enforcement after his team’s loss to Morehouse College on Jan. 31. Taylor said a group of players from Morehouse’s football team were “acting aggressively” towards the Tuskegee players and their parents during the postgame handshake. Taylor said he asked police to remove the players because their behavior violated security protocols. Instead, one officer handcuffed him and escorted him off the court. The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference later fined Morehouse and determined that they did not meet the required security standards for ensuring safety, according to a statement. “Our historic institutions are expected to provide competitive environments that prioritize the safety, dignity, and mutual respect of student-athletes, coaches, officials, and fans.
