New GPs with extended roles (GPwER) framework: Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH). We’re pleased to introduce our new GPwER designed to support GPs who deliver, or want to develop, an extended role in this important area of care. GPs are experts in whole-person, community-centred care, and many are involved in supporting children and young people with mental health needs. This framework explains what an extended role looks like, how the work differs from standard general practice, and the areas of knowledge and practice that can support safe, effective care. Because CAMH roles vary depending on local population needs, the framework avoids prescribing a single model and instead offers adaptable, practical guidance that can be used across the UK.
