LSU (14-8, 2-7 SEC) carried a one-point lead into halftime and struck first in the second half, but South Carolina quickly found its rhythm. Elijah Strong and Eli Ellis knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Gamecocks ahead 56-52, and South Carolina later stretched the lead to 5 points with just over 8 minutes remaining.
The Tigers answered down the stretch. Rashad King converted a driving layup with 5:54 left, then followed with a go-ahead 3-pointer 40 seconds later. The teams traded leads in the closing minutes before Nwoko finished at the rim to tie the game at 78 with 1:39 remaining. Neither side scored again in regulation, sending the game to overtime.
