BREAKING NEWS: Matthew Smith, 20, is accused of blowing a red light while driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Alexander Avenue and colliding with Officer Patricia Espinosa's, 42, car that was going westbound on Route 347 near the Smith Haven Mall in St. James last Saturday, Jan. 31, around 6 a.m. Suffolk County police charged the Hauppauge man with one count of driving while intoxicated, but his arraignment had been delayed until today while he was receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at Stony Brook University Hospital.
