Today is the commemoration day of Longchen Rabjam Drime Wozer (1308–1364), popularly known as Longchenpa. He is revered across Tibetan Buddhism for his profound contributions to the Great Perfection (Dzogchen) meditative tradition. Longchenpa studied Buddhist philosophy at the renowned Tibetan monastic college of Sangphu Neutok and is especially known for his dedication to the Heart Essence (Nyingtik) tradition associated with the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. He is also revered for systematizing the teachings of Nyingma school in his "Seven Treasures," though he also studied in the Kadam, Kagyu, and Sakya schools. One of the most widely practiced Tibetan Buddhist traditions, the Longchen Nyingtik (Heart Essence of Longchenpa), is rooted in his teachings, and thus bears his name.
