Am I overanalyzing another common joke? Of course! “How do they survive in the wild?” is a common joke made by and to exotic pet owners. We have a lot of weird animals that don’t always appear very clever or adept at skills that would help them live if they were truly wild animals. The answer is that most reptiles (and wild animals as a whole) don’t survive. They are predated, die of starvation, and catch diseases. There is a reason captive animals usually live many times longer than wild ones. They have access to vets, regular food and water, and have no predators. And while I will joke alongside the rest, we should remember our animals have never had to learn how to hunt and survive like their wild counterparts, so we should cut them some slack for being bad at hunting ;) #ballpython #gecko #leopardgecko #reptiles #beardeddragon
