Are one length irons the future of golf? 🏌️‍♂️ Or is there a reason golf clubs have different lengths? The first one-length irons were released by Tommy Armour in 1989. Each club was the same length as a 7 iron and they aimed to simplify the golf swing by keeping it consistent across all clubs. But at the time, they didn’t take off for two reasons: Firstly, longer shafts in the shorter irons increased swing speed, causing them to fly too far and launch too high. Secondly, shorter shafts in the longer irons reduced swing speed, causing them to fly too short and launch too low. And with that, the one-length iron idea disappeared from mainstream golf for nearly 30 years — until along came Bryson DeChambeau. Bryson saw the potential of one length irons to enhance his consistency - after all, it makes sense to have irons the same length if you want to make the same swing every time.
