The right whale calf count has just jumped to 18! 🐋 Right whale Catalog #4610 and her first known calf were sighted by the CMA Research Institute aerial survey team in North Carolina on January 8, 2026, east of West Onslow Beach, NC. Catalog #4610 has not received a name yet, but she is 10 years old and was born in 2016 to mother Swerve (right whale catalog #1810), according to the North Atlantic Right Whale Catalog curated by the New England Aquarium. Two other new right whale calves were recently located by FWC aerial survey teams in Florida. Right whale Catalog #3593 and her calf were sighted on January 6, 2026, off Jacksonville Beach, FL.
