The 6th North Atlantic right whale mom and calf pair of the season were sighted yesterday! 🐋 Cascade (catalog #3157) and her new calf were seen by the CMA Research Institute aerial survey team approx. 18 nautical miles east of Ossabaw Island, Georgia on December 16. Cascade is 25 years old and this is her 4th known calf. It's estimated that less than 400 North Atlantic right whales remain in the wild. Every new calf our researchers document brings more hope for the critically endangered species. 💙 Photo credit: Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute, taken under NOAA permit #26919.
