The year is 1989 and you’re walking around Central Park on a Sunday. You don’t have a cell phone to text or call anyone. You’re listening to a saxophonist on a bench nearby, debating if you’d rather visit the Met or the Guggenheim today (or neither because crowds are more manageable on a Monday). You give directions to a tourist looking for Bethesda Fountain. You could resume the book you’re reading but, out of habit, you start to wonder, “Has he called? Has he left any messages? Is he missing me?”
You stuff the questions out of mind — you’ll find out when you check your answering machine later tonight. But first, New York is calling.
Happy megryan fall to all who celebrate — just because October is over, doesn’t mean we’re not still going strong.
