April is #ChildAbuseAwarenessMonth. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, “child abuse is any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation.” Child abuse is not just physical, but is also considered emotional, sexual, and through neglect. But what are the signs of child abuse? Some signs include unusual bruising, possibly reflecting the shape of an object used to cause the injury, burns, fear to touch, withdrawal from society, changes in behavior, lack of sufficient clothing or food and more. To report any possible activity of child abuse, contact the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station at 661-260-4000, or report child abuse to the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-422-4453.
