“It’s just a horrible muddy mess. I’m kind of wondering what my next house is going to look like because this one’s not habitable any more.” Kerry Dickie lost his mobile home and most of his belongings to intense flooding that damaged Mission Farm RV Park in San Juan Bautista, California. Even before waters from several nearby creeks started pouring into the park, he and his son discovered that their evacuation route was blocked by flooded streets strewn with large, underwater rocks. Thankfully, they were able to evacuate by car to dry land, but when Kerry returned home after floodwaters receded, he found a foot and a half of standing water inside. Tens of thousands of people across California have been displaced due to three consecutive months of atmospheric rivers that have caused levees to fail, rivers to overflow and communities to be inundated with floodwater.
