Belly breathing is a simple way to support calm and nervous system regulation. 1. Sit or lie down comfortably. Relax your shoulders and let your body soften. 2. Place one hand on your belly, one on your chest. Notice where the breath is moving. 3. Inhale slowly through your nose for a count of 4. Feel your belly rise gently, like a balloon filling. 4. Pause briefly. Notice the stillness at the top of the breath. 5. Exhale through your mouth for a count of 6. Let the belly fall and release tension with the breath. Repeat for 5–10 breaths, allowing each exhale to soften you a little more. Belly breathing is a scientifically validated technique that engages the diaphragm to enhance oxygen intake, lower cortisol and trigger the parasympathetic nervous system.
