Did you know that there are only ~1075 mountain gorillas left in the wild? (And that there are none in captivity?) When people talk about gorillas, they always talk about their capacity to hurt people. Could 100 men beat a gorilla in a fight? Who cares. Gorillas don’t want to get in a fight. In spite of how many people subscribe to the “might makes right” ideology, and even though gorillas are much stronger than humans, they’re much more peaceful. Gorillas are intelligent, sensitive creatures, who are far more vulnerable to humans than we are to them. When we obsess over their strength or ascribe them violent traits, we forget that they are actually in need of our protection. #conservation #wildlifephotography #rwanda #educational
