Today’s the official opening ceremonies for the XXV (that’s 25th) Winter olympics and it has us feeling nostalgic for when Calgary was centre stage for the XV (that’s 15th) Winter Olympics in 1988.
“Coming together in Calgary” was truly symbolized on February 13, 1988, when 12 year old Robyn Perry – chosen to represent the next generation of athletes — climbed the steps of McMahon Stadium and lit the Olympic cauldron, officially welcoming the world to Calgary and kicking off the 1988 Olympic Winter Games.
Swipe through for a look back at some of the opening ceremony images from 1988! Good luck to all athletes participating and go teamcanada 🍁
