While everyone's overpaying for clapped Civics and Bimmers, you could snag a pristine Speed3 for under $10k (depending on where you live). The mod path is really simple and pretty cheap. Simple bolt ons can make turn the Mazdaspeed3 into a piss missile. Speed3's are now old enough where there's still a lot of aftermarket support, but the parts aren't absurdly priced. Plus the MZR 2.3L engine is bulletproof when maintained, so you're not immediately dropping like $3k on a rebuild before you even add floor mats.
