We are proud to recognize acclaimed filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee as the first spotlighted honoree of the 38th Annual “A Candle in the Dark” Gala & Inaugural Ball.⁠ ⁠ A recipient of the 2026 Candle Award, Lee has helped shape modern Black storytelling through movies including his feature film debut The Best Man; Girls Trip, Barbershop: The Next Cut; and Space Jam: A New Legacy. His dynamic career has produced art and culture that resonates across generations. ⁠ ⁠ “A Candle in the Dark Gala” will also celebrate five more luminaries whose leadership and service embody the Morehouse legacy including 2026 Bennie Award honorees James L.
