“Street medicine weaves together compassion, advocacy, and community—one human connection at a time.”
For the second time this year, Penn State students traveled to Los Angeles as part of KINES 414: Interdisciplinary Study of Street Medicine, continuing a growing experiential learning partnership that brings classroom lessons directly into communities.
For senior Savannah Brion, the week became a series of small, powerful moments—packing care bags on the first night, walking through shelters with clinicians, and listening to stories from people often overlooked. One of those stories came from Cece, a woman her age who taught Savannah how to weave baskets from fallen palm fronds. Their time together was short, but her parting words left a lasting imprint: “Don’t ever let your kindness or passion fade. You were brought here for a reason.”
