Today, the City Clerk certified the results of the April 4, 2023 general municipal election, officially sending me to the May 16 mayoral runoff election. Because no mayoral candidate received more than 50% of the votes, the top two vote-getters move to the runoff. As I reflect on this moment, I want to first thank all of the other candidates who made the commitment and sacrifice to run for public office. Though there are differences among us, we all share the same commitment and vision to see a better Colorado Springs. I applaud them for participating in the democratic process by entering the arena and ultimately being subject to the criticism of friends, neighbors, and strangers. They raised their hand when others didn’t, and no one can take that from them. I am honored to have gone through this experience with them and look forward to collaborating with these leaders.
