Sheri Reif shares a personal, family-centered account of feeling “failed by the healthcare system,” weaving together stories involving dementia care, mental health treatment, and long-term type 1 diabetes management. She describes how conventional advice shaped her family’s choices—especially around low-fat, processed foods, and carb-focused diabetes guidance—and argues that diet and lifestyle discussions were often missing when they mattered most. She also recounts her own history with chronic pain, anxiety/PTSD, and reactive hypoglycemia, and explains the path that led her toward low-carb approaches and becoming an Insulin IQ coach. Along the way, she frames her talk as a call for advocacy, “ground-up” change, and teaching kids whole-food norms.
