Part 3 of my helium series, and we’re discussing one specific problem you might be having, and how to troubleshoot it.
Potential issue
#5: you’re at high elevation.
Because oxygen gets thinner the higher you get in elevation, helium floats less well. Just like a boat needs to be in water to float, helium needs to push against oxygen to float. The less oxygen, the less float time.
To solve this, you’re going to want to use LESS hi-float than you typically would. This reduces the balloon’s downward force, while trapping as much helium inside the balloon as possible. That combo will give you extra float time even if you live in the mountains.
