We are honored to be joined by Medal of Honor recipient, U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Bob Patterson.
Born in Durham, North Carolina, in 1948 and joined the U.S. Army in 1966. During the Vietnam War, on May 6, 1968, then Specialist Fourth Class Patterson was serving as a fire team leader when his platoon was pinned down by heavy enemy fire near La Chu, Vietnam. Disregarding his own safety, he and his team moved forward under intense fire, and Patterson single-handedly destroyed five enemy bunkers, neutralized eight enemy soldiers, and captured seven weapons, inspiring his unit to press the attack.
For his extraordinary bravery and selfless service, he was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Nixon in 1969. 🇺🇸
