No. 24 Tennessee defeated Syracuse 45-26 in the Orange’s season-opener at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
A 17-0 first-quarter run, highlighted by a fumble return for a touchdown by Vols’ defensive back Colton Hood, got Tennessee rolling, and Syracuse couldn’t recover. Four combined scores from Yasin Willis and Johntay Cook and a much-improved second-half display weren’t enough to overcome the Volunteers’ first-quarter momentum.
