On Friday, Syracuse University signed a “joint stewardship agreement” with Haudenosaunee Faithkeeper Oren Lyons to donate documents he’s collected to SU’s Special Research Collections Center. Lyons’ life as a Faithkeeper and work advocating to preserve Indigenous culture, alongside the new collection, were honored during a ceremony on Shaw Quadrangle. The archival material documents Lyons' work in lacrosse, education, the arts, Indigenous rights and advocacy. SU Chancellor Kent Syverud said the SCRC exhibit will be “the most significant archive of contemporary Indigenous leaders in the United States.” It’s part of the Chancellor’s larger efforts to maintain the memory of the Haudenosaunee, whose land SU was built on. Click the link in the bio to learn more.
