Syracuse men’s basketball is off to its best start in two years with several highlights and lowlights in its advanced analytics. Forward Donnie Freeman is leading the charge, pacing the Orange in advanced player ratings on both sides of the ball. Still, SU’s bench is nearly a net negative.
Head coach Adrian Autry’s philosophy of playing fast hasn’t gone to plan, nearly mirroring last year’s tempo metrics. The Orange have also struggled with the second-worst free-throw mark in the country and minimal 3-point distribution.
At the same time, Syracuse offers encouragement on defense, allowing a minuscule opponent field goal percentage. The Orange have protected the rim, courtesy of Freeman and center William Kyle III.
