Calcium is an essential mineral, that is so specially IMPORTANT for SIGNAL TRANSMISSION between cells. Calcium is often called a “second messenger. In the central NERVOUS SYSTEM, calcium is required for nerve cells to release neurotransmitters and in the muscle cells, it promotes contraction. Calcium is also important cofactor for MANY ENZYMES especially those involve in blood clotting.

The recommended daily intake value of calcium varies per age. For children: 1,000 mg and for adults: 1,000 to 1,500 mg per day.
