Ever wonder why it’s called Guinness World Records? A Guinness Brewery manager in Ireland once argued over what species was Europe’s fastest game bird. To settle future pub debates, he commissioned a book of superlatives which eventually became the Guinness World Records. The first edition was published in 1955. “The initial reaction from the book trade was not that positive,” says Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records. “In the first sales meeting ever, the salesperson wrote ‘six’ on the slip.
