On the back of a sled, the dogs ran across the sea ice with a passion for life. They reminded paulnicklen of mini polar bears. This was the life Greenlandic sled dogs were born into, and they loved it. Nothing can stop a group of sled dogs from pulling a sled, not even a hunter partway through loading it. On the sled with Paul was mitty, and guiding them across the ice was Greenlandic Inuit hunter Naimanngitsoq. To the Inuit, the ice is home, as it has been for millennia. They are deeply dependent on the ocean, hunting seals and fish. Like many Indigenous Peoples, Inuit see themselves as part of nature, not separate from it. Greenland is not empty. It has a story, and its people have spent much of the 20th century advocating for sovereignty and self-determination.
