Originally built for the 1960 film Spartacus, this massive Roman forum style set stood for decades as one of the studio’s most impressive standing backlot builds. The iconic Senate steps and surrounding architecture were designed to represent Ancient Rome, with matte paintings extending the skyline to make it appear even larger on screen. From epic sword and sandal films to television productions, this set later became known as the Square of Warriors before its removal in the 2010s.
