Depending on where you live, “palmetto bug” may refer to smokybrown cockroaches, Florida woods cockroaches, or even American cockroaches. They’re typically 1–2 inches long, glossy brown or reddish-brown, and thrive in warm, humid environments. While many species prefer the outdoors, they’ll come inside looking for food, moisture, and shelter, especially during cooler months. Indoors, they’re commonly found in kitchens, bathrooms, attics, crawlspaces, and areas near plumbing or appliances.
