I thought I was ready for Carnival…turns out I was WRONG. The road to Carnival is a marathon, not a sprint. As a Carnival newbie, I’ve been soaking up tips from Carnival vets and this really is Olympic-level preparation. I’ve already clocked a few things I’d definitely do differently for next year. So if Carnival is on your list for next year, here are some tips I wish I fully listened to BEFORE playing mas in Trinidad:
1. Book everything early. Bands sell out fast and flights and accommodation get wild closer to Carnival. Plan months ahead… unlike me, who bought my flight in January 😩. Thankfully my favorite uncle is Trinidadian, so housing is covered in Trinidad AND Tobago— otherwise I’d be in trouble because hotel prices are insane. Also: Trinidad is fete after fete after fete. Plan your fetes and transportation early to save money (learn from my mistakes lol).
2. Start your leg and core workouts NOW! Wining for hours uses muscles you forgot existed. I’ve been training since Octo...
