The usual suspects. All business for the Philadelphia Union on their short trip up I-95. Jim Curtin may be at the wheel but this bus is powered by young talent. Jack McGlynn, Leon Flach, Matthew Real. A midfield with an average age of 21, pulling the strings of this team last night in a way even Geppetto would admire. It might be too early to call them masters of their craft, but it’s never too early to admire talent when you see it. Sixty three goals scored for this Union side, and there’s still five games to go before the curtain call. Playoffs have long been the true test for any team’s performance in Major League Soccer, and only a few are able to reach the silverware at the end of the line. Philly know this all too well, and with their Eastern Conference Final exit at the hands of NYCFC last year, this year’s season almost feels like a revenge tour. Ruthless in defense, relentless in the middle, and merciless up front. Playoffs can’t come soon enough.
