On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, is in conversation with Lucy Mtilatila, Director of Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services in Malawi. In this video, Dr Mtilatila shares her journey into science, from being the only woman in her class to overcoming the hardships that followed. Her message to girls everywhere is simple: stay determined, and do not let obstacles define your future. Through the Climate Risk & Early Warning Systems (CREWS) Initiative Malawi project, women and young people are deliberately placed at the center of disaster preparedness. Field experience shows that women are often the fastest to act on flood warnings, becoming trusted messengers within their communities. Gender-sensitive education and training benefit everyone.
