A torma is a Tibetan Buddhist edible ritual object, traditionally made for offerings and ceremonies.
As we approach Losar, or Tibetan New Year, we’re sharing how a torma is created from start to finish. This particular torma was created by Lama Tshewang Phuntsok, from Lhodrak Kharchu Monastery, a major Nyingma monastery in Bumthang, central Bhutan.
In this first stage, oatmeal and water are mixed into a dough and shaped by hand into a base that will support the form as it develops. This foundation establishes the structure of the torma as the process continues.
