Across Himalayan art, warrior deities and epic heroes are often shown riding battle horses. For example, Gesar and his entourage of dralha (warrior deities) are depicted on horseback, emphasizing their speed, power, and resolve. Similarly, Tibetan mountain gods also frequently appear on horses, indexing the strength of the natural world they personify. In these cases, the horse serves as a visual shorthand for freedom and forward motion, qualities closely associated with the energy of the Fire Horse. Losar—Tibetan New Year—marks the Year of the Fire Horse.
