Commissions for a Brutalist Building: Léon Wuidar alongside Sol LeWitt and Daniel Buren ✨️
In the early 1980s, Léon was commissioned by Charles Vandenhove to design permanent enamelled panelling for part of a building at the University Hospital CHU (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire) in Liège, Belgium.
Art historian and curator Marjolaine Lévy comments: ‘Brutalist architecture is fundamental to Wuidar’s work. Not only because his paintings are composed of flat planes structured by crisp lines and meticulously drawn contours [...] but also because architecture is deeply intertwined with his life in a very tangible way'.
