According to an investigation by Annenberg Media, medical training for Israel Defense Forces personnel funded by the U.S. Navy uses bodies donated to UC San Diego through the Anatomical Donation Program. A number of the cadavers used for training were first donated to UCSD and then moved to USC, according to contracts between the Navy and USC. Neither USC nor UCSD have shared how much USC pays UCSD for the bodies UCSD sends. UCSD receives bodies through its Body Donation Program. The UC states online that it uses the donated bodies mostly for medical and pharmacy programs, with a smaller portion used to support training in other health disciplines like nursing and physical therapy. Other stated uses for cadavers are in research or by surgeons to evaluate and practice new surgical techniques.
