Approximately 200 Indian Hills Middle School students participated in a walkout to protest the activity and policies of Immigration and Customs Enforcement today. Students gathered in the auxiliary gym at 2:07 p.m. during the passing period between fifth and seventh hour. They walked onto the soccer field at 2:20 p.m., and the protesting lasted 40 minutes. Indian Hills administrators and Student Resource Officers monitored the walkout to ensure that no one got hurt; however, administration and staff remained neutral. The students chanted “ICE out” and held up signs reading “Fight ignorance, not immigrants,” “ICE melts,” “we’re skipping our lessons to teach you one” and more. Students remained primarily behind the 40-yard line on the west side of the field, as there were a few students on the opposite side of the field counter-protesting, according to eighth grader Sasha Paddock.
