On this day in history, the sport of softball came to be! Thanksgiving, 1887 in the Chicago Farragut Boat House. It all started with the Harvard-Yale football game, specifically the spectators. At the game's end, one spectator playfully threw a boxing glove at the opposing fans, and they then swatted back at it with a broom handle. George Hancock called out, "Play Ball!" and the first official game of softball was underway!
