If animals could talk to us, would they? And what would they want? It’s a deceptively simple set of questions, but they sit at the heart of a growing field of research known as Animal Computer Interaction (ACI). Rather than using technology to train, control, or manage animals, ACI asks something more radical: what if we designed technology for animals, on their terms, and learned to listen instead? In this short documentary, CGTN Europe explores the work of Dr Fiona French and her efforts to bring together computer science, animal behaviour, philosophy, and welfare science. Can technology help bridge the communication gap between us and the animal kingdom?
