Inside our Jazz & Contemporary Trainee Program, the studio welcomed guest faculty member Aliya Janov aliyajanov for an inspiring return. A proud alumna of our program, her artistic voice continues to evolve on the professional stage. Now dancing with Whim W’Him Seattle Contemporary Dance whimwhimgram, she returned to the studio to share company repertoire and her lived professional experience. She was joined by fellow Whim W’Him company member Jacob Beasley jacobsinabody, who offered additional insight into the work and the collaborative demands of dancing at the professional level. ⁠ Learning company repertoire asked trainees to shift their focus toward specificity and intention, navigating the textures, dynamics, and musical detail embedded in the work.
