Today we celebrate the birthday of Ernst Fuchs, the Austrian artist behind the 7th
#BMWArtCar.
In 1982, Fuchs transformed the
#BMW635CSi. The first BMW Art Car based on a serial production model and the first to be reimagined by a European artist. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the BMW 6 Series, first introduced in 1976.
A co-founder of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism, Fuchs treated the car as a canvas for imagination, symbolism, and emotion. Originally created for the exhibition Art as Illustration — Illustration as Art, the car was conceived as a purely static artwork and was never used for racing.
