As of late 2025, philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has donated over $700 million to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in a single, recent, record-breaking series of donations, bringing her total contributions to these institutions to well over $1 billion since 2020. These massive, unrestricted gifts have supported over a dozen institutions, including $80 million to Howard University and $63 million each to Prairie View A&M and North Carolina A&T.
