As we reflect on #BlackHistoryMonth our seaairfcu Vault throws it back to 2016 when Team USA goalkeeper ashleighjohnson was named the Women’s Sports Foundation: Sportswoman of the Year (Team Sport). Ashleigh was first African American woman to make a US Olympic water polo team. 🤽🏾‍♀️ Ashleigh was awarded the honor fresh off womenswp_usa Team USA second consecutive Olympic gold medal in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. 🇺🇸 The womenssportsfoundation 2016 Sportswoman of the Year awards were presented to 2016 Olympians Ashleigh Johnson and Claressa Shields (boxing) in the team and individual and categories respectively. 🥇 Claressa was also the first African American woman to win Olympic gold medal in the sport of boxing. 🥊 The Sportswoman of the Year award is bestowed upon athletes who have distinguished themselves from the field through their supreme athletic performances over a 12-month period. #TheVault #WomensSportsFoundation #TeamUSA #Olympics
