The number of deaths by s*icide of trans youths has surged following rollbacks on gender-affirming healthcare, a new freedom of information request by Good Law Project has shown. Posting to the Good Law Project website on 7 February, the non-profit said: “The decision by Wes Streeting to commission a review into suicides which downplayed the scale of these tragedies was unforgivable. His report denied the reality of trans deaths, as Streeting’s ban on puberty blockers denied the reality of trans lives.” The group also alleged that the Department of Health “has fought tooth and nail” to block FOI requests into figures surrounding the impact of the rollbacks. Good Law Project confirmed that between 2021-2022, the number of s*icides by trans youths in England surged to 22. There were just five the previous year, and four in the year before that.
