After World War II, Hana Berger-Moran’s mother never forgot the young American medic who helped save her newborn daughter inside Mauthausen, a Nazi concentration camp. Decades later, she made a request to her daughter: find him. Hana tracked down LeRoy “Pete” Petersohn. They met in May 2005. He was 81. “I was able to thank him finally. Truly thank him because he saved my life. He did,” says Hana. “I asked him if I can call him Daddy Pete…I didn't have a father, you know? So he became my daddy.” Hana never met her biological father, who died in the Holocaust before she was born.
