Eva Clarke, Hana Berger-Moran, and Mark Olsky survived the Holocaust as newborns. Their mothers were newly pregnant when they were sent to Auschwitz in 1944, forced to work at slave labor camps in Germany, and then gave birth in unimaginable conditions. All three mothers and their newborn babies ended up at Mauthausen, where they remained until American soldiers liberated the camp. This past year, the three Holocaust survivors, all now 80, returned to Mauthausen for a commemoration ceremony celebrating the 80th anniversary of the camp’s liberation. Thousands from around the world gathered to remember the prisoners who worked and died at Mauthausen, as well as those who liberated the camp. Inside one of the still-standing barracks, the three survivors say they couldn’t help but feel the presence of their mothers. “All I am thinking about is I've been here before. I've been here before.
