Remember 2016? It was perhaps a happier, more innocent time. The top song of the year was Justin Bieber’s Sorry (a familiar word for most Canadians) and the Tragically Hip were uniting the nation with their Man Machine Poem tour. Pokeman Go was huge, and the Toronto Blue Jays’ playoff run energized the country for a second consecutive year. Far in the future were COVID lockdowns and more recently, the turmoil of sweeping tariffs.
Here at the Rotman School, Tiff Macklem was still our dean, before taking a lateral career move (kidding!) to become the governor of the Bank of Canada. Susan Christoffersen was still just a professor and Professor Dilip Soman was still head of BEAR. Professor John Hull, who sadly passed away last week, was still a titan of finance and the man who “wrote the book” on derivatives. He will be missed.
And then as now, our students were hitting their stride through networking, speaking and social events. What were your favourite moments of the year?
